Hillsdale, Michigan – August 16, 2017

The Hillsdale County Community Foundation (HCCF) is pleased to announce that applications are available for Hillsdale County nonprofit organizations interested in participating in a Giving Day event aimed at encouraging all of Hillsdale County to give to local non-profits on one specific date. Aspiring to facilitate the largest single day of giving in Hillsdale County, HCCF will be hosting The Great Give on November 28, 2017. November 28 is also recognized as Giving Tuesday, a global day dedicated to giving back. On this date, charities, families, businesses, community centers, and students around the world will come together for one common purpose: to celebrate generosity and to give. The HCCF is hoping that the spirit of philanthropy will be demonstrated and celebrated in Hillsdale County as well.

Hillsdale County nonprofits wishing to apply to be a Giving Day participant must complete an application form, available from the HCCF office at 2 South Howell Street in Hillsdale. Applications are due by 4 pm on September 19, and application submission is not a guarantee that an agency will be selected to participate. Nonprofit organization applicants must agree to the following:

  • Verify that the agency is a 501(c)(3) organization in good standing with the IRS, with a current License to Solicit from the State of Michigan.
  • Have one representative from the organization present at the HCCF during Giving Day on November 28, 2017, to accept donations. An agency representative must be present during entire event (9 am – 4 pm) to promote the organization.
  • Vigorously promote Giving Day within and outside their own organization.
  • Submit all Giving Day marketing and communications materials to the HCCF for approval before distributing to donors and the public.

In 2016, The Great Give leveraged just over $116,000, including public donations of over $96,000 and bonus pool funds from the Community Foundation totaling $20,000. For inquiries about the 2017 Great Give application process, please call 517-439-5101 or email a.yoder@abouthccf.org.
